States with the Most Road Construction Projects

Turn on the news nowadays, and you will at once be bombarded by the many reports on the global pandemic that has swept across the United States and the rest of the world. While that’s a serious issue, there is also another serious pandemic that’s been slowly but steadily sweeping across the US – and that’s the pandemic of bad roads and interstate infrastructure. And the worst part is that this pandemic can also kill you (all you have to do is read about the many lives lost due to shoddy road infrastructure or neglected maintenance of roads across the US).

If you are a company in need of reliable rental transport, you will want to make sure you get the vehicles you rent back in one piece (or else, face hefty fines). After all, no transport company wants to get their flatbed or passenger van back with a missing wheel! Here are some of the US states where road construction projects have either been completed or are underway, which will completely transform the economy, make more jobs, and save lives.

I-635 LBJ East Project (Texas)

Driven by the most utility and energy projects costing more than $153 billion, Texas is right up there when it comes to having the most road construction projects. One of the most anticipated projects includes the I-635 LBJ East Project that aims to decrease the congestion in Dallas courtesy of an 11-mile long highway.

This mega road construction project will also build additional bridges, intersections, and other improvements that will complement the new highway. However, the project is slated to be completed by 2024, so it’s still going to be a while until it’s finished. However, Texas also has many other road construction projects that look to improve the flow of traffic in what is one of the largest metropolises in the US.

I-5 North Coast Corridor Project (California)

The State of California always seems to be at the top of the list when it comes to road construction projects. But strangely, one would think otherwise while they’re stuck in traffic for hours on end. In fact, in recent years, there have been many Californians who have left to find a home elsewhere in the country mainly because of a road infrastructure that’s clearly lacking in all aspects (and to get away from traffic jams that last for hours).

Keeping that in mind, the I-5 North Coast Corridor Project is one of California’s most famous road construction projects, and with $465 billion worth of projects going on within The Golden State, that says a lot. Cali’s I-5 North Coast Corridor Project is especially important because it is more than just another SoCal infrastructure project. It is going to improve more than 27 miles of highway that runs along the northern coastal area of San Diego.

The good news about the I-5 North Coast Corridor Project is that once it’s completed, residents of not just San Diego but also neighboring Del Mar, Encinitas, and Carlsbad, along with a few others, will also benefit from the project. This massive road construction project includes truck-specific lanes and high-occupancy vehicle lanes along with other improvements to reduce road congestion that Californians are all too familiar with. The I-5 North Coast Corridor Project is a huge project and will come with a price tag of a little over a billion of tax payer’s money, but the end result is expected to be a smooth one.

New York City

As the temperature rises on the East Coast, so do the road construction projects, making driving a nightmare for many living in the counties across New York City. Nearly every major downtown street is under reconstruction, which means there’s a lot of digging up and rebuilding going on, which is a good thing for drivers once these projects are completed. However, it can be a real pain at the moment.

Currently, there’s over $14 million of federal funding on the table to complete all of these road construction projects across New York to improve the flow of traffic and make roads less congested. The pandemic put much of the road construction projects that were planned for 2020 on hold, so it’s good to see the jackhammers out and crews working to build New York streets, especially after Ida wreaked havoc on much of the city.

Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project (Virginia)

Not to be left behind, Virginia has also announced a mega road construction project that will cost around $3.3 billion. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project is the largest road construction project being undertaken in the history of road construction projects by the VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation). The project includes a four-lane tunnel and further widening of the eight existing lanes on the I-64 between Norfolk and Hampton. If all goes as planned, the project is expected to be completed by 2024.
